UPTON PARISH COUNCIL ANNUAL MEETING.
Councillor Peter Rushton was elected chairman for the following
year,
with Councillor Pat Fotheringham
elected as vice chair.
All members of the council were present. The WLDC councillor, J.Milne
and PCSO were also in attendance.
The police gave out letters for all parish councils, saying that the
police would like more intergration with the parish councils. The
Upton parish would now be under Saxilby station intead of Market
Rasen.
Anna Grieve gave a report on closed burial grounds.
Councillor Milne told the council that new age curling would be held
in the Village Hall in the near future.
Clerk to contact highways re white line painting and to thank
highways
for filling in some pot holes. Clerk to report these.
Councillors agreed not to take up the services of Hill Holt Wood
sceme
as they now wanted paying for time and materials. Local man to cut
the footpath between Church Road and Main Street.
The next meeting will be on July 12th when councillors will meet
outside the Methodist Schoolroom at 7p.m. for the annual walk round
the village to see what needs to be done.
FRIENDSHIP CLUB.
Miss Margery Clayworth gave the members a talk and demonstration at
the clubs last meeting.
Margery showed members the beautiful toys she had knitted and did
some
flower arrangements.
The afternoon was so enjoyable that the chair booked her again for a
Christmas demonstration.
WOMENS INSTITUTE.
The speaker at the June meeting was Alison Tirsley who gave a
humorous, yet instructive talk on Lavish Lifestyles.
The evening included a plant swop, which was very well supported.
COFFEE MORNING.
The W.I. organised a coffee morning in the Village Hall to celbrate
90
years of the Royal British Legion.
The morning included a raffle and plant stall. £150.00 was raised
for
the charity..
FRIENDSHIP CLUB
Lynda Hotchkiss was the speaker at the meeting of the club on
Thursday
afternoon.
Her subject was Out and About in Lincolnshire which members found
very
interesting.
The club will hold an afternoon tea on July 21st when all are very
welcome.
QUIZ Last week's quiz was for the cricket club.Dave Farrow was the
quizmaster. The winners were The Young and Good Looking Team and The
Oblong Table Ladies the booby prize was won by The Universally
Challenged Team, £100 was raised this week's quiz is for Kidney Cancer
Charity.

PARISH MEETING OF UPTON PARISH COUNCIL
The meeting began with a minutes silence in respect of Mr. Colin
Hutchinson who died on Easter Monday.
The meeting was addressed by Mr Mark Sturgess of West Lindsey
planning
department, who gave a report of government changes that will effect
planning.
The chair, Peter Rushton, then thanked the councillors for their work
over the past year. Councillors had 'manned' the garden rubbish
trailer, picked up rubbish and cleared weeds from tree of High Street.
Reports were given from most of the village organisations and the
Harold Jubbs Memorial trust.
The Annual Meeting will take place on May 24th in the Methodist
Schoolroom.
VILLAGE HALL.The chair welcomed residents who had turned up for the
Annual Meeting.
She told the meeting that to conform with the charity commission,
three new trustees had been appointed.
Mr R.Forrester, Mr S.Hutchinson and Mr. P.Mann had all accepted the
position.
The secretary, C.Wells, treasurer, reported that the hall is being
well used, especially in the winter months.
P Chester told of income from two weddings, jumble sales and the
Trentside Singers concert.
The two parish councils had given grants to the hall.
Committee elected were S.Rockall, chair, P.Chester, treasurer, C.
Wells
secretary.Committee, C.Pugsley, R.Pugley, D.Jubbs, P.Rushton,
J.Fotheringham, P.Fotheringham and M.Allen. The Upton parish council
would send reps to meetings on a rota basis.
WOMENS INSTITUTE.
Rudis' Roots from Nettleham gave a demonstration of how to set up a
hanging basket at the May meeting of the W.I.
After this very interesting and informative demonstration, Mrs
N.Prescott gave a vote of thanks.
FRIENDSHIP CLUB.
£123.00 was raised at a coffee morning for club funds. The morning
included a raffle and tombola.
DEATH.
Residents of the two villages were very sad to hear of the death of
popular man Colin Hutchinson.
Colin died on Easter Monday and leaves a widow and three sons. He was
a past parish councillor, chair of the Horticultural society, quiz
master at the Rose and Crown quiz nights, a very active member of the
Methodist Chapel, but always supported All Saints Church. Chair of
the Christmas Market for many years.
The funeral took place on Wednesday at the Central Methodist Chapel,
Gainsborough, when a large congegation said goodbye to this very well
liked man.

VILLAGE HALL AGM This meeting is tonight Thurs 12th May starting at
7pm, everyone is welcome to attend.

Upton Methodist Chapel Anniversary A concert by the Glentham Singers
will be held on Saturday the 7th of May at 7-00pm followed by an
Anniversary Service on Sunday the 8th of May at 10-30am taken by
visiting preacher Mr Greg Unwin from Sheffield.
METHODIST CHAPEL GOOD FRIDAY
A good Friday gathering was held with hymns & readings and poems,
these were given by, Gwen Bingham , Norman Brown, Julie Barrow,
Jane
Anderson,&
the Trentside singers
The organist was Jenny Fotheringham
this was followed by hot cross buns,simnel cake & tea or coffee.
FRIENDSHIP CLUB
The club was entertained this week by Peter Rushton showing a video
of
previous Royal Weddings.
ROYAL WEDDING Many people say that community spirit is a thing of the
past, well don't you believe it because it is alive and well in the
villages of Upton and Kexby.This was shown at last Friday's royal
wedding celebrations when most of the two villages took part in the
sports afternoon, the faith tea which saw the village hall packed to
the rafters and the evening's entertainment which included local band
Blind Man Running and disco., all in all it was a wonderful day enjoyed
by everyone who attended, well done to all the organisers.

BOWLS Upton and Kexby Indoor Bowls season came to an end last Thursday
with the finals night. Three hotly contested matches were played, with
John Alsop beating Peter Rushton in the two woods competition, the
experienced Keith Woffinden narrowly beating the young novice Ben Alsop
in the four woods competition and the match of the night in which Mike
Robinson and Ben Alsop beat Keith Woffinden and Peter Rushton in the
doubles competition. The new season starts again in September anyone
who would like to join the club would be made most welcome for more

was the quizmaster. The winners were The Round Table Team,£105 was
raised. This week's quiz is for the Royal Wedding celebrations, would

BINGO A family Easter bingo is to be held this Friday 15th April in the
village hall starting at 7pm everyone is welcome.

arrangements will be held before the quiz at 8-45pm.
COFFEE MORNING.A very successful coffee morning was held at the home of
Mr and Mrs Pat
Fotheringham,when £305.00 was raised for Chapel funds. The morning
included a raffle,
tombola and cake stall.Pat and Jenny would like to thank everyone who
supported this event.
FRIENDSHIP CLUB Mrs Clare Kendall of ' Whatever' in Gainsborough
visited the club to show
members how to knit some of the lovely new wools she has in her shop.
Unforunately, some of the wools were not available so Clare will be
coming
back when her stock has been replenished. A hilarious afternoon was
enjoyed by all who attended.
MOTHERING SUNDAY A special service is to be held this Sunday at All
Saints Church at 9-30am where everyone will be welcome, especially
those who were baptised at All Saints.
